Up Front

2014-4

April is the month we celebrate the beautiful azalea as it explodes around the region in its brilliant colors. From the gorgeous model on the front cover to the charm-ing story of saving a historic rural church, this has been a rewarding magazine to create. It is full of great stories like that of the 84-year-old church at St. Helena. Once filled with worshippers, now there are only three. We consider it a privilege to share this important history with our readers. Following the church vein, we have a selection of church food; you know the great finger foods put out for an event (even if it is a celebration of life, following a passing). For this we looked to St. Paul’s Episcopal on the edge of downtown Wilmington. At St. Paul’s, congregants lay a spread each and every Sunday to foster fellowship after the service. We found it charming. This issue holds our annual Kitchens That Cook and the three outstanding choices could have you evaluating your own kitchen with the thought of more efficiency or more livability. April means the spring party season has begun, and the party of all parties is the Azalea Festival’s garden party, albeit for sponsors only, but that has never been a deterrent to those who know someone who is a sponsor. Easter is right around the corner, so it seems fitting to grace our cover with a hatted young lady who epitomizes a classic look for this spring. Couple that with our semiannual nonprofit social registry, which is packed 10 WBM april 2014 with options for serving and giving to all combined with a gala event. The surprise this issue was the garden houses to be found on this year’s garden tour. These appealing structures are a delight. Pat Bradford trying on hats at Bangz. Pat’s hair by Frank Potter, Bangz, hair and makeup styled by Matt Matyi, Bangz, ali and bird necklace and earrings from the Fisherman’s Wife, outfit from J. Jill, Mayfaire. Last, but not least by any means, we bring the touching story of daughters standing in solidarity with their mother who is undergoing cancer treatments. Beth Quinn’s three daughters joined her in cutting their hair in support of Quinn’s battle. It will not fail to touch your heart as it did ours. Happy Spring and Easter season every-one!
